Work & a Dream
I'd really like to post something interesting today, but I have to work on a (mercifully short) presentation for an upcoming conference. And then there is the other conference presentation, but it can wait, as it is several months away. And then there is that article I am supposed to be writing - two actually - but I have been stricken with an odd feeling of disinterest that might have been encouraged by lengthy periods of procrastination and ambivalence.
I have a cold too, and that always serves to kill the energy. If only I could build some sort of bed under my desk, Like George Costanza did on Seinfeld, things would be so much better.
So, all I can offer is this: I only remember bits of the dream, but it centered around Air Canada. They canceled my flight somewhere and bizarrely, they attempted to make it up to me by presenting me with all kinds of gifts, like tickets to MarineLand, a coffee maker, shoe polish, shiny buttons, pet food, a year's supply of laundry detergent, canisters of oxygen, a bushel of green peppers, paper clips, Hank Williams Jr's Greatest Hits on CD, a piranha in fish bowl, and a pound of gummy bears.
All items were presented in person by an Air Canada pilot in uniform who showed up unannounced at my house.
OK, so enough procrastinating...

Air Canada cancelling a flight? That's a first.
I have a question for you. What bike do you commute on? Are you happy with it? I feel that a new bike maybe in my immediate future and would appreciate a review.
I bought a GT Outpost in spring of 1998, and it is still going strong. I have had to do the usual repairs and adjustments to the gears, brakes, tires, cables etc. as well as replacing the entire drive train twice (pedals, chain, sprockets...) as a result of road salt.
I read somewhere that it has a very durable frame for the price. My previous bike only last two years, and it was not worth repairing, but this one seems to go and go. I wish I had a reason to get a new bike, but since this one seems to be rugged, I'll have to wait a few years more.
There are probably better bikes out there, but I haven't even looked around for 9 years, so I have no idea.
Sounds like ZF has an interesting life.

Deleted comments. Is your buddy back?
He has never left.
It could not have been a REAL Air Canada pilot in your dream. A REAL pilot would have eaten the gummy bears before arriving at your door.
I almost feel slighted. I only had to delete 3 of his hateful comments this morning.
Hang in there, my friend! He can't live forever!
Well, I have taken drastic steps and enabled the dreaded comment moderation. At least no one will get to see his hateful words and his advertisements for his blog here.
Comment moderation is a pain, but we can deal with it so that crazies can't come in.
I feel you on the George Costanza thing. I have two large storage closets in my shanty here at school and I've considered a small air mattress, but I thought that might look really unprofessional and suggest that I might be doing things I ought not to with teenagers (iwww). I have brought a small afghan and curled up on the dirty floor during my planning period. Sad, but true.
