What is Your Favourite Song?

I have a theory that, as people age, they no longer have a favourite song. Instead, they have songs that they like, but it becomes increasingly difficult to have one favourite. That's true of me. When I was a teenager, I carried a top ten list in my head. Perhaps it was from having listened to all of those countdowns for the end of year, end of decade, and end of millennium, end of whatever. It's hard enough for me to list a top ten fav singers/bands.

Do you have a favourite song? Tell me what it is. I want to know.

zf, I think this applies not only to songs, but to other things, like favorite books, favorite movies, even best friends. As we get older we still have favorites, but we don't number them and we have more categories, so instead of having a number 1 favorite song, number 2 favorite song etc. I now have several lists (in no particular order) of favorite songs for certain things (eg. favorite songs to relax to, favorite songs to cry to, etc.).

oh, yeah, and here are some of those favorites:

crank-it-up songs:
Midnight Rambler by the Rolling Stones
Agnes by Donnie Iris
Never Been Any Reason by Head East

songs that have a calming effect on me:
Africa by Toto
Shadows of the Night by Pat Benatar

Sexy songs:
Holly Holy by Neil Diamond (yes, I'm serious)
most songs by Shaggy!

ok, I've said enough!

I think that we still end up with favorite songs, but they are tied into emotions more then when we were 15. There are certain songs that bring sadness, ie. I heard them a lot while driving to Montreal when mom was passing away from cancer. Other songs bring happy memories from good times.

Wow...fave song...hmmm...
I don't think I have a single favorite. Damn! Getting old sucks :-)

My Top 11 would probably be (and it will change in the next ten minutes:)

1. Big Iron - Marty Robbins
2. Bad Luck - Social Distortion
3. The Legend of Pat Brown - The Vandals
4. Atlantic City - Springsteen
5. Hold On - Tom Waits
6. Burn Hollywood Burn - Public Enemy
7. Southern Accents - Tom Petty
8. King of Rock - Run-DMC
9. The Angel of Death - Hank Williams
10. Bonzo Goes to Bitburg - The Ramones
11. Folsom Prison Blues - Cash

I think its always hard to pick out any single song, because as we age, our musical appreciations change. When I was in my teens, probably could've done it. My musical tastes were simpler then.

Tough question.

I could never pick a single song, cd, ten songs, collections of songs...every time I hear one that I love it's the same thing..."I just lo-o-o-o-ove this song, it's my most favorite in the whole world!" (Until the next one shows up.)

My favorites are all subject to change at a whim. So, I guess this proves your theory, no?

It changes every day, but it is almost never something you're likely to hear on the radio...

Hell, just now I'm thinking I can't believe I left Tom Petty's "American Girl" off my list!

That will always be one of my all-time favorite songs. I feel good just hearing the title.

Some others:
Thunder Road - Bruce
Crazy Love - Van Morrison
Ain't To Proud To Beg - Stones version
Talk of the Town - Pretenders
Crazy - Patsy Cline

Yet, from some of my favorite artists, I can't choose a song. Joni Mitchell, Dylan, the Stones - their music is so important to me, but for the life of me, I can't name a favorite song. Why is that?
