Panic on the Streets
Well, not panic, but mayhem. The ride in today was very unpleasant because of all of the extra cars on the road. Of course, there were extra bicycles too and more pedestrians. It makes me wonder why these people can't walk or cycle every day. Transit should be shut down from time to time to get people off of their asses.
All of that extra exhaust was really disgusting. Oil production may have peaked, and I am not so sure it is a bad thing.

I agree, why can't people bike/walk/blade the rest of the time? Not convenient enough! That's why.
Pain in the ass, but you have a point that it might switch some people over to self-propelled modes of transportation!
The problem is, shutting transit puts more of them in cars than on bikes. Not to mention the ones who live too far to bike anyway.
If there were a bus strike in Guelph, I wonder if anyone would notice the difference?
You mean becuase Guelph has a stupid transit system and no one uses it?
Glad I didn't have to go to TO that day.
I absolutely agree with shutting off transit. When in NYC that is possible but living , as I am for the summer, in Maryland I am thinking most people would have to leave pretty early to walk into the District of Columbia or Baltimire to work.
I walk to work but I was almost hit by a skate boarder last week so I am getting me one of those.
After living in cities with really good transit, Guelph makes you want to weep. It might as well not exist. Except there are folks who need it.
It takes me 40 minutes to get downtown from where I live (including the wait time for the bus, but you have to go to the stop early. Sometimes they can be as much as ten minutes early. Buses run every half hour.)
It's less than ten minutes by car.
I am jealous. I live in Houston, home of all the evil oil companies. Can you guess that our transport sucks? We could take a bus into downtown from our new house, but it would take me 1.5 hours to get to work. Or 15-20 min in my car. That sucks.
BTW, the public transport we do have is used.
Mr. Fish... where are you?
I think I have too little sympathy.
