Blogging Etiquette

I am still trying to decide if I like Blogosphere or World Live Web better. But, that is besides the point.

Do you ever feel like you are an intruder when you read a blog? I visit many blogs and comment on some. But, there are times when I feel I have trespassed on a private conversation, albeit one held in public. Maybe it's a group of friends who routinely comment back and forth on each other's blogs. In any event, I often feel that posting a comment would be an invasion. What do you think of that?

That's all I have today.

I suppose that's true enough, although anything posted publicly is fair game; people do have the option of password-protecting their sites. Probably a strange comment would be a welcome surprise.

i, too, sometimes feel like i should not comment on a blog where there seem s to be sort of an "in" group. but, I usually comment when I feel the urge to do so. Otherwise, ppl should disable comments if they don't want comments. i personally love comments on my blog. i dunno. that's all i can say. i don't like it when the same person comments on every single one of my posts, tho. that gets annoying sometimes.

I think its perfectly fine to leave comments on blogs that you've never visited before. its both networking within the community, and if there is a comments feature, the author wants people to comment.
my blog is for all people in the field of library science...and other beautiful people! come back anytime, i appreciate the patronage, I hope you do too.

I blogged for quite a while before i started commenting...now I comment on blogs I like, and now and then on blogs I stumble across. I enjoy having a variety of people comment on mister anchovy, but its good also to see some familiar names come back again and again (still trying to figure out how come)...

I comment on blogs of people I know and people I don't know. I think it's better to leave a comment than to just 'lurk' -- but if people post things on the Web, then they really can't complain if other people read it. I think the thing that is the creepiest is when people I know read my blog but don't tell me that they read my blog and let me tell them stuff that they have already read on my blog.

I definitely feel like I'm intruding. Although that doesn't stop me -- especially if I want to say something. I may be even more motivated to interrupt the discourse if I feel like I'm intruding! ;-)

A couple of things that are annoying:
1) when I want to give a comment -- and comments are disabled
2) people who post negative feedback anonymously because they fear flaming
3) people who flame those that give negative feedback

I enjoy it when 'strangers' comment on my blog. It lets me know that others are reading it and what they think of it.
